Why the Giants can win: The team that rode a lights-out pitching staff to the 2010 World Series is back, this time with an offense. Only the Brewers and Nationals scored more runs than the Giants after the all-star break. Their pitching actually flagged, but Matt Cain, Madison Bumgarner and Tim Lincecum remain playoff-tested and have an elite ceiling.
Why the Reds can win: They went 91-56 (.619) in their final 147 games. Homer Bailey threw a no-hitter in the final week of the season and may get left out of the playoff rotation. Joey Votto is perhaps the best hitter in the world, non-Miguel Cabrera division, and Aroldis Chapman gives Craig Kimbrel a run for most dominant closer. Jay Bruce, Brandon Phillips and Mat Latos give them stars all over the field.
Prediction: Reds in five.
