“It was good to come out and play like the way we can play today,” Georgetown Coach Terri Williams-Flournoy said. “It was nice to see us aggressive and not be in such a fight. We played relaxed and were able to take a few chances here and there.”
This one wasn’t a complete rout, at least in the first half. The teams were close for most of the first 20 minutes, with the Hoyas taking a six-point lead into the locker room.
A layup by Rodgers sparked a 10-0 run to open the second half, though, and Georgetown cruised from there. The Hoyas outscored the Friars, 41-20, in the second half.
Georgetown outshot Providence (13-14, 5-9), which didn’t have a single player in double figures, 40.7 percent (22 of 54) to 23.1 percent (12 of 52) from the floor.
●AMERICAN 54, ARMY 48: Alexis Dobbs scored 20 points as the Eagles (20-6, 12-0 Patriot League) earned a program-record 12th straight win. Tori Halvorsen added a career-high 10 rebounds for American in the home win at Bender Arena.
Anna Simmers scored 19 points for the Black Knights fell (13-14, 7-5).
●HOWARD 50, COPPIN STATE 49: Tamoria Holmes made a three-pointer with less than six seconds left to send the visiting Bison to their 20th win of the season. Howard last won at least 20 games when it went 21-10 in 2000-01.
Holmes scored 23 points, and Saadia Doyle added 12. Howard improved to 20-7, 12-2 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. The Eagles fell to 15-11, 10-3.
●COLGATE 62, NAVY 60: The Raiders (7-20, 4-8 Patriot League) rallied from a 12-point deficit with 11 minutes left to beat the Midshipmen (14-12, 7-5) in Hamilton, N.Y. Navy’s Jade Geif led all scorers with 20 points and had eight rebounds. Kelly Korkowski scored 18 for Colgate.
AU men cruise past Army
In West Point, N.Y., Charles Hinkle scored 18 points and American shot 67.9 percent from the field in the second half to defeat Army, 74-50, and sweep the regular season series.
The Eagles (18-9, 9-3 Patriot League) outscored the Black Knights (12-15, 5-7), 44-25, in the second half.
Tony Wroblicky and Troy Brewer added 10 points apiece for the Eagles, and Daniel Munoz chipped in eight points and 10 assists.
●HOWARD 70, COPPIN STATE 66: Calvin Thompson and Glen Andrews came off the bench to score 17 points each to lead the Bison to a win over the host Eagles.
Howard (8-19, 5-9 MEAC) closed the first half on a 12-1 run to take a 30-20 lead. The Bison shot 12 of 24 from the field in the second half.
Antonio Williams led Coppin State (13-13, 8-5) with 21 points.
●COLGATE 59, NAVY 57: Mitch Rolls scored 13 points and made a three-pointer with one second to play to lift the Raiders (8-19, 2-10 Patriot League) to a win over the Midshipmen (3-23, 0-12) in Annapolis.
It was the 19th straight loss for Navy, which had taken a 57-56 lead on a layup by Isaiah Roberts with eight seconds to go.
Jordan Sugars scored 20 points and Roberts added 18 for the Midshipmen.
Colgate ended a four-game losing streak.
