Ravens vs. Seahawks: Baltimore suffers letdown in ugly loss at Seattle

SEATTLE — They said that they had learned their lesson, that the letdowns that occurred first in Nashville and then in Jacksonville wouldn’t happen again.

Then, the Baltimore Ravens went out and truly outdid themselves. They fumbled kickoffs, dropped passes, took stupid penalties, showed little recognition that Ray Rice was indeed on their team, and allowed what was the league’s third-worst offense to go on a couple of long scoring drives.

It added up to another head-scratching performance by the Ravens and a 22-17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks at CenturyLink Field.

“There’s the hard way, there’s the easy way and then there’s the way we do it. It’s like, ‘Let’s see how much we can spot them before we come back and win the game.’ It’s terrible,” said linebacker Terrell Suggs.

Instead of building off their dramatic comeback victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers last Sunday, the Ravens fumbled all the momentum against the now 3-6 Seahawks and the potential AFC North lead away. The Ravens (6-3) are a half-game behind Pittsburgh (7-3) and tied with Cincinnati in the division.

The Ravens cut their deficit to 22-17 on Joe Flacco’s 11-yard touchdown pass to tight end Ed Dickson with 5 minutes 52 seconds to play. Dickson had a career-high 10 catches for 79 yards and two touchdowns.

But the Seahawks, who faced first and 20 from their 10-yard line, ran the final 5:52 off the clock.

Ravens kick returner David Reed symbolized a brutal afternoon by fumbling two first-half kickoffs, leading to two Seattle field goals.
