Redskins-Cowboys: Four for the memory books

The Redskins and Cowboys have met plenty of times with a lot on the line. A look at some particularly memorable matchups:

Dec. 16, 1979

Cowboys 35, Redskins 34

In the final game of the regular season, the Cowboys stage a dramatic comeback in final minutes at Texas Stadium behind Roger Staubach to win division and keep Redskins from making playoffs. Cowboys lost to L.A. Rams in first round of playoffs. Redskins finish third in division.

Dec. 11, 1983

Redskins 31, Cowboys 10

Both teams entered Texas Stadium at 12-2, and the Redskins won as part of their season-closing nine-game winning streak to win the division. They finished the regular season at 14-2 and advanced to Super Bowl XVIII. The Cowboys lost their final two in the regular season, finished second in division, and lost in first round of playoffs.

Dec. 9, 1984

Redskins 30, Cowboys 28

John Riggins scores winning touchdown in the fourth quarter at Texas Stadium. The Redskins closed with four straight wins to take the division at 11-5 before losing in first round of playoffs. The Cowboys lost their final two games to finish second at 9-7 and miss the postseason.

Dec. 18, 2005

Redskins 35, Cowboys 7

The victory in FedEx Field was part of a season-closing five-game winning streak, and the Redskins finished second in the division at 10-6 and advanced to second round of playoffs. The Cowboys lost two of their final three to finish 9-7 and miss postseason.
