JOB_DESCRIPTION: Assume a technical position as a communications systems engineer supporting various government sponsors, such as the Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), (Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and intelligence agencies. Communications systems include wireless line-of-sight and satellite communications systems and networks. Position available with the communications and systems networking group (VCS) within the Information Systems Branch(VIB). Typical tasks (with notional percentage of time) include: End-to-end communications systems analysis and development. Act as a trusted agent providing government sponsors with critical needs and capability assessments, early conceptual studies, trade studies, requirements and architecture development, equipment integration, test planning, and test execution. Provide technical oversight of developmental projects. Provide active participation in working groups, IPTs, and government teams to assist in the development of communications systems and ensure alignment of government initiatives across multiple agencies. Work with teammates to ensure designs satisfy needs of government sponsors. Ensure system requirements and capabilities are consistant with DoD roadmaps and vision. Provide systems engineering solutions to advance global connectivity (e.g Global Information Grid (GIG)) development. Advance and apply new technologies to enable evolution of existing communications systems to higher data rates, IP based solutions, and greater interoperability. May involve diverse disciplines including physical layer & networking architectures, transport protocols, QoS performance, antennas, and RF engineering. Assist in APL business development associated with government communication systems.
