Elementary School Program Instructor George Mason University, Office of Community Relations within the Office of University Relations seeks a part-time hourly Elementary School Program Instructor to copresent Go Green with Gunston, a weekly interactive environmental education program for Fairfax County school children in grades K-3. Incumbent will work with Gunston, a costumed actor, and teachers to implement the newly developed program designed to introduce children to the basics of what it means to "go green." Individual will be given a program outline which includes a song, story and interactive game. The program will take place in various School Age Child Care (SACC) centers, located in Fairfax County elementary schools, on most Mondays between 2 and 5 p.m. (this includes transportation and set-up time) beginning October 5, 2009. The successful candidate will also be required to introduce the Go Green with Gunston curriculum to SACC teachers in late August, 2009. Additionally, preparation time for each Monday program will be two hours per week and can be done anytime during regular business hours prior to each program. Incumbent will be responsible for providing their own transportation, transporting supplies, and coordinating logistics and pertinent information with the costumed actor. Requirements: - Experience in teaching or working with young children; - Ability to quickly learn the content of the program and be able to present to others; - Take visible delight in all children. Be energetic and entertaining while adhering to the curriculum; - Must be organized, able to work independently and coordinate with the costumed actor to fully prepare for each presentation; - Ability to lead songs; - Must be over 18 years of age; - Must submit to and pass a background check; - Must have a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle; and - Acting and/or environmental education background is a plus. Salary: $15 per hour (anticipated five hours per week including preparation, transportation, set-up and take-down). Mileage will not be reimbursed. Actual program is one hour.
