Bhutan’s royal wedding Bhutan’s “Dragon King,” its charming, American- and British-educated and immensely popular monarch, married his longtime girlfriend Thursday, kicking off three days of celebration in this tiny Himalayan country.
King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema arrive at the Tashichho Dzong before an early morning prayer ceremony at the Chamber of the Golden Throne in Thimphu, Bhutan. In this final day of wedding celebrations for the royal couple, more than 50,000 people turned up at the stadium to see dancing and singing.
