Nov. 7, 2012: The reaction in Tehran to Obama’s reelection was subdued compared with when he won four years ago, when many Iranians believed an Obama presidency would bring renewed relations between Iran and the United States. While much of that enthusiasm has diminished, there was a sense of relief, as concerns that a Mitt Romney presidency might signal military attack by U.S. and Israeli forces over Iran’s nuclear energy program had become widespread.
