Governor Valery Shantsev of the Nizhny Novgorod region will be visiting the United States between Feb. 28 and March 6 as part of a working visit to Washington, D.C., Annapolis, Md., and New York City.
He has meetings planned with state organizations, the local Chamber of Commerce and the U.S. Import-Export Bank. Shantsev will also meet with U.S. business representatives and investors in hopes of promoting his region.
The program will include a presentation of the Nizhny Novgorod region for state and business representatives. Martin O'Malley, the governor of Maryland, will participate in the signing of a protocol of cooperation between the State of Maryland and the Nizhny Novgorod region.
“The main target of our visit to the United States is to present our socio-economic potential and share the investment opportunities with our partners,” Shantsev explained. “We hope this small step for two parties turns into a great leap for thousands of people to work, cooperate, create new ventures, learn and enjoy life,” he added.
Andrew Somers, President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia (AmCham), also expressed interest in the visit. “The Chamber enjoys a very high level of cooperation with Governor Valery Shantsev and the administration of Nizhny Novgorod,” he said. “The Governor regularly meets with AmCham member companies to discuss investment opportunities in the region and the Chamber has led a business delegation to the region. Governor Shantsev and his administration have strongly encouraged investment in the region, and now such American companies as Intel, Coca-Cola, IBM, Emerson and Proctor & Gamble have operations there,” added Somers.
