Slate Breaks Traffic Record in September
Over 87 Million Page Views; Up 41% Over 2007
WASHINGTON, D.C.-October 6, 2008-Slate, the daily online magazine, broke its traffic records in September with over 87 million page views, a 41% increase over September of last year. The best performing area of the site was news and politics, up 67% over last year.
Business and technology also saw a significant increase, up 53% over last year, due in large part to the addition of technology columnist Farhad Manjoo and commentary from Daniel Gross, Moneybox columnist who also contributes to The Big Money, Slate's new business site that launched mid-September.
"During this intense political season, more people are turning to us to get the Slate take," said David Plotz, Slate's editor. "Our provocative and entertaining analysis on everything from campaign speeches and debates to the economy is something users can't get anywhere else."
User interaction is also up at Slate. The Explainer column, which answers users' questions about the news, saw a 95% increase from 2007. Slate's user discussion section The Fray saw a 90% increase in monthly page views over last year, indicating that more people are posting comments on articles and engaging with other Slate users.
"We've made a lot of enhancements to let our readers better interact with our site, and we're glad to see more users join the conversation," said Plotz.
As Election Day approaches, Slate will continue to provide a wide range of features, including commentary from Chief Political Correspondent John Dickerson, analysis on the women's political blog, The XX Factor, original video commentary from Slate V and more.
