Slate Launches New “Cool Capitals” Ad Campaign for European Destinations

Bobbleheads Blogging Their Excellent European Vacations

(Arlington, VA, Oct. 16, 2006)—Slate, the online magazine, has launched the 2006 Cool Capitals campaign on behalf of four major European destination cities — Amsterdam, Antwerp, Vienna, and Zurich. Cool Capitals and Slate again are partnering with an innovative initiative that begins with the Cool Capitals on Slate section. http://www.slate.com/coolcapitals.

The four cities will be seen through the eyes of two fictitious personalities, Summer (from the West Coast) and Charlotte (from the East Coast). The campaign will be for five weeks.

Each week, Charlotte and Summer, who will be represented by bobbleheads, will be posting accounts of their travels in the different cities, with postings each day on "Food and Nightlife," "Fashion and Shopping," and "Art and Architecture." Charlotte and Summer will have different takes on the cities and different experiences.

Photos of Charlotte and Summer in the four cities will be featured, along with accompanying audio reports by the intrepid vacationers. Users will have an opportunity to vote on which personality has the best time in each city and at which activity. Charlotte and Summer also will be on-line for a discussion with readers.

Cliff Sloan, publisher of Slate, said, “Slate has gained a reputation as a place to explore innovative advertising in many forms. Cool Capitals is a fun and entertaining way to engage users in experiencing these great cities. We’re delighted to be a partner in this campaign.”

Last year, Cool Capitals and Slate had a highly successful partnership in which Slate hired four bloggers in the four cities and created a special, multi-dimensional section on Slate for Cool Capitals. The section received extensive traffic and hugely boosted traffic to the Cool Capitals site and e-mail sign-ups.
