The Pulitzer Prizes
The Pulitzer Prize is an American award regarded as the highest national honor in print journalism. Prizes are awarded yearly in twenty-one categories.*

*This is only the fourth time in history that a newspaper has won more than three of the 14 journalism prizes in a single year. The Washington Post did this once before in 2006.

 

min’s Best of the Web Awards
min’s Best of the Web Awards is the top honor for the digital side of magazine publishing. The Best of the Web Awards recognize Web sites and digital initiatives among consumer and b2b magazines.
Once again, the Best of the Web Awards recognized the Newsweek and Slate brands as leaders in excellence and innovation online. In addition, Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive’s CEO, Caroline Little, was inducted into min’s Digital Hall of Fame. The Digital Hall of Fame honors “the people who believed in the power and potential of the Internet before it became de rigueur, making online leaps of faith that paid off—and big.”

National Journalism Awards

These prestigious awards, presented by the Scripps Howard Foundation, recognize excellence in 17 categories in print and online journalism. washingtonpost.com took the award for Web Reporting and The Washington Post newspaper was a finalist in two other categories.

MPA Digital Awards

The Magazine Publishers of America’s MPA Digital Awards “honor excellence and innovation of magazine brands on all digital platforms.”

Digital Edge Awards, for circulation 250,000+

Awarded by the Newspaper Association of America each year since 1996, the Digital Edge Awards highlight the best of newspapers’ online achievements. This year, washingtonpost.com was a finalist in four categories and winner in two:

  • Most Innovative Use of Interactive Media: The Issues Tracker and HD Video Podcasts
  • Best Design and Site Architecture

min Magazine Awards, ‘The 21 Most Intriguing People in Publishing, 2007’

More than 300 people attended this luncheon gala, which honored ‘the glitterati of the magazine world, while paying special heed to the year’s hottest launches and digital media heroes.’

Cliff Sloan was awarded one of The 21 Most Intriguing People in Publishing, 2007’.

Knight-Batten Innovations Award

The Knight-Batten Awards spotlight the creative use of new information ideas and technologies to involve citizens in public issues.

*Jennifer Crandall and washingtonpost.com received 1 of the 6 awards and 4 honorable mentions. 133 total entries were submitted by print, television and online news organizations and education and non-profit institutions.

The judges stated about OnBeing, “ It’s different. It makes you cry. It’s a model for the future of news.”

EPpy Awards

(Since 1996, the EPpy Awards have honored the best Web sites in the media world, including newspapers, TV-Cable, and magazines.)

*In 2006, washingtonpost.com's three awards were the most won by any single Web site in the competition. In 2007, we were only eligible to win one EPpy award. As stated on the EPpy Web site, “Perennial multiple-category EPpy Awards winners such as… the Washington Post were limited to just one win…in the 2007 competition.”

The Peabody Awards, cited as the most prestigious awards in electronic media, have primarily recognized excellence, distinguished achievement, and meritorious service by radio and television networks since 1941; however, the competition is open to other medium including online publications.)

Radio and Television News Directors Association

The Radio-Television News Directors Association has been honoring outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971.
