WASHINGTONPOST.COM AND SLATE CITED FOR EXCELLENCE

Arlington VA, February 23, 2005 — A national segmentation study conducted by washingtonpost.com in partnership with Nielsen//NetRatings and Scarborough has found that a rapidly growing number of Americans are increasing their use of online sources for news and information at the expense of other media.

(Arlington VA) June 9, 2005 -- Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive (WPNI), a leader in online news and information and subsidiary of The Washington post Company, announced today that two of its news sites, washingtonpost.com and SLATE magazine were awarded 2005 EPpy Awards at the Editor& Publisher/MediaWeek Interactive Media Conference in New Orleans.

Washingtonpost.com was recognized for Best Design of an Internet Service with over one million monthly visitors per month. Runners-up for the award included the Seattle Times and azcentral.com.

Slate, the online-only news magazine, was cited for two Eppys -Best Internet News Service and Best Internet Entertainment Service with over 1 million monthly visitors.
