Ron Rosenbaum to Join Slate Magazine

Noted Critic To Write Wide-Ranging Bi-Weekly Culture Column

NEW YORK, February 26, 2007 — Slate Magazine announced today that noted critic Ron Rosenbaum will write a bi-weekly culture column for the online magazine beginning Feb. 26.

The column will cover a wide range of topics in his signature style, including movies, pop culture, literature, religion, art and music. Rosenbaum says, “I've enjoyed reading and writing for Slate over the years and I'm really pleased to add my point of view on a more regular basis—and to join the smart, talented group of writers Slate has assembled."

Rosenbaum is no stranger to Slate. He has contributed to the magazine in the past, and most recently wrote about the movies “Borat” and “United 93.”

Rosenbaum, described by David Remnick as “one of the most original journalists and writers of our time,” most recently wrote a culture column called “The Edgy Enthusiast” for the New York Observer. Many of his pieces have been collected in four volumes, the last titled “The Secret Parts of Fortune.”

Rosenbaum is the author of seven books, including “The Shakespeare Wars” ("Electrifying. A Spectacular book"--Cynthia Ozick), which was discussed in a recent Slate book club, and “Explaining Hitler” which The New York Times called a "provocative work of cultural history that is as compelling as it is thoughtful, as readable as it is smart." It has been translated into ten languages. In addition he edited an anthology on the question of anti-Semitism, “Those Who Forget the Past.”

His essays and journalism have appeared in many national magazines including Harper's, The Atlantic, The New Yorker, Vanity Fair and The New York Times Magazine for which he's written eight cover stories.

Rosenbaum has taught non fiction writing at Columbia and NYU journalism schools, has a Vare fellowship in creative writing at the University of Chicago, co-wrote the award winning PBS/Frontline documentary Faith and Doubt at Ground Zero and is writing a screenplay for Oscar winning director Errol Morris.

Born in Manhattan, Rosenbaum grew up in Bay Shore, New York, graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Yale with a degree in English literature, and spent a year at Yale Graduate School before leaving to write full time.
