washingtonpost.com Launches “Election Collection ‘08” Widget, New Mobile Election ’08 Channel

Comprehensive Candidate News and Information in More Portable Formats

WASHINGTON, October 08, 2007 —washingtonpost.com, an award-winning news and information Web site, today announced two new ways to get comprehensive candidate news and information from washingtonpost.com without having to be on the site, or even on a computer.

The “Election Collection ‘08” will provide complete candidate profiles organized in easy-to-navigate tabs, including biographical information, the latest news feeds, campaign event schedules, and fundraising data. Available as a portable application (widget), users can conveniently access washingtonpost.com’s campaign coverage from their personalized Web pages, blogs or social networks.

“There is a growing demand from readers to be able to access our content when and where they want it-whether that be on social networking sites or on their mobile phones,” said Jim Brady, Executive Editor of washingtonpost.com. “In addition to launching widgets we are also very focused on expanding our presence on mobile browsers, which we see as an important and growing source for news.”

As part of that mobile strategy, washingtonpost.com is also expanding the politics section of its mobile site to include an Election ’08 channel. This subsection will soon allow users to access the same comprehensive candidate information they can find on the site and in the “Election Collection ’08” widget, including bio information, news, campaign stops and campaign financing.

washingtonpost.com is regularly working to expand its mobile offerings and plans to continue adding content in other sections. To find washingtonpost.com’s mobile site please visit: http://mobile.washingtonpost.com/
