Washingtonpost.com And Newsweek Host “Potomac Primary” Election Coverage

LIVE VIDEO WEB CAST, INTERACTIVE DISCUSSION, CONTINUOUS RESULTS

WASHINGTON, Feb. 12, 2008 — Building on the momentum of washingtonpost.com and Newsweek’s seven hours of live Super Tuesday video coverage, the leaders in political news will join forces again to host a live video Web cast of Washington, DC, Virginia and Maryland’s “Potomac Primary” on February 12th.

Jon Meacham, the Editor of Newsweek, will anchor the program, joined by the authorities on Capitol news from The Washington Post, washingtonpost.com and Newsweek, including Dan Balz, Chris Cillizza, Sally Quinn, Mark Miller, Eleanor Clift and Jon Cohen, creating an unparalleled, intimate examination of the “Potomac Primary” results.

The Washington Post’s Marc Fisher and Newsweek’s Michael Isikoff will anchor a special preview show beginning at 4:00 pm ET and will also provide in-depth analysis throughout the night.

Political figures including Elizabeth Cheney, democratic strategist Steve McMahon, Washington, DC Mayor Adrian M. Fenty, Richmond, Virginia Mayor L. Douglas Wilder, and Larry Sabato, the Director of the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia, will provide expertise on the Potomac political environment.

By combining online video with live discussions, coverage from distinguished Washington-based journalists, continuously updated maps detailing polls, results and delegate counts, washingtonpost.com and Newsweek are revolutionizing the election experience. Together, these news teams will provide more than three hours of continuous live video coverage of what will likely be a close and intense battle for delegates.

“Our video coverage of Super Tuesday’s national election proved that we are ready to take interactive online reporting to the next level,” said Jim Brady, Executive Editor of washingtonpost.com. “We have a unique platform, as the leaders in Washington, DC news, and aim to provide unique national exposure for our local-area elections.”

“Once again, Newsweek will demonstrate its commitment to cutting-edge digital journalism,” said Deidre Depke, Editor of Newsweek.com. “We have the talent, the technology and the determination to be first on the Web in political coverage.”

In addition, washingtonpost.com will offer readers immediate mobile phone alerts of updated results.

Tammy Haddad, former Vice President and Executive Producer of political coverage at MSNBC and President of Haddad Media and washingtonpost.com’s Assistant Managing Editor of News Video Chet Rhodes are Executive Producers of this election special.

A preview video will be available at 4:00 pm and the Web cast will take place between 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm ET on washingtonpost.com/postpoliticstv and through washingtonpost.com and Newsweek.com’s homepages.
