Dan Froomkin Named Editor of washingtonpost.com
Arlington, VA.— December 1, 2000— Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive (WPNI) announced today that Metro Editor Dan
Froomkin has been promoted to editor of washingtonpost.com. In this role, Froomkin will manage the daily news operations and
oversee editorial project development, with a special focus on improving newsroom technology. He will report to Vice President and
Executive Editor Douglas B. Feaver and work closely with Deputy Editor Jim Sheppard.
“Dan has been a valuable asset to the editiorial team since he joined washingtonpost.com in 1997,” Feaver said. “His incredible energy,
strong editorial judgment and Web journalism experience make him the perfect fit for editor. The skills and experience Dan brings to
this role will be particularly important as washingtonpost.com continues to expand the news, information and interactive resources it
offers readers.”
Froomkin joined WPNI in 1997 as senior producer for politics. During that time he wrote and produced political special reports and
ran the site’s impeachment coverage. In 1999, Froomkin became metro editor, managing the news content of the Metro section.
Prior to his positions at washingtonpost.com, Froomkin spent ten years as a daily newspaper reporter covering local news for the
Winston-Salem Journal, the Miami Herald, and the Orange County Register. In 1995, he was awarded a Michigan Journalism
Fellowship. In 1996, he served as Editor of New Media for Education Week, launching Education Week on the Web. Froomkin has
also taught journalism at The American University Graduate School of Communication and The Poynter Institute. He received a
Bachelor of Arts in 1985 from Yale University.
