El Salvador has one of the most liberalized telecommunications markets in Central America. Since the sector opened in 1996 following the sell off of the state-owned telecom company, foreign operators and local concerns have invested millions of dollars in bringing state-of-the-art infrastructure to the country.
One long-time operator is Americatel El Salvador, part of the Americatel Centroamerica group which, in turn, is a subsidiary of Entel Chile S.A., one of Latin America's leading companies in the sector.
"We were the first regional carrier dedicated to serving the needs of the multinationals operating in Latin America and the Caribbean," says Americatel El Salvador general manager Alvaro García. "We feel quite at home here as the Salvadoran telecom sector is very similar in Chile."
"El Salvador is also a good place to do business as the economy is growing and the government's dollarization has made it very easy for businesses like ours with international reach to operate," he adds.
