Message from the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina | | September 14, 2000 Bangladesh and the US are two friendly countries. As a major partner in the investment scenario, the United States is the highest investing country in Bangladesh particularly in technology and capital intensive sectors. I am happy to see that in further strengthening the bilateral relationship, the Board of Investment (BOI) of Bangladesh has published special advertising supplement in The Washington Post.
The historical ties of friendship and co-operation between Bangladesh and the USA has further been boosted by the first ever visit by the US President, Mr. Bill Clinton to Bangladesh earlier this year. The Strategic situation of Bangladesh as a link between South and Southeast Asia, her large population and the hinterland around her make this country attractive for trade, investment and service industries.
Following the challenges of the 21st century, Bangladesh is moving towards economic development and social progress. Along with it, we have put special emphasis on foreign investment. We have undertaken a series of reforms, and prepared an attractive package for domestic and foreign investors. We have revamped our Board of Investment (BOI) which has been playing an important role to support and facilitate foreign and domestic investment.
We hope many more investors from the USA will come forward to invest in Bangladesh, have access to a large market in and around Bangladesh, and participate in the economic and industrial progress of this emerging nation. We believe with the relentless efforts of our people along with the assistance of our developing partners and foreign investors we shall be able to materialize the dream of our Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Majibur Rahman and achieve his dream of Golden Bangel.
I believe Bangladesh-USA relations will flourish and get deeper day by day.
