Hands Off the Coral

I was disappointed that the Shopper column [Style, April 21] featured coral jewelry on the day before Earth Day.

Coral reefs are endangered ecosystems, and because coral populations have become so depleted, some countries are banning harvesting for aquariums and decorative objects.

Decades ago, newspapers may have published articles about the beauty of ivory jewelry or objects. Coral is today's ivory. The Post should not be encouraging ecologically insensitive consumerism.
