Qyntel Woods's rocky season may finally be on an upswing.
Woods, waived by Portland earlier this season after two suspensions -- one for violating the NBA's drug policy and another after he was charged with animal abuse -- was activated yesterday by the Heat. He was in uniform for Miami's home game last night against the Raptors.
Woods has not played in a game with either Portland or Miami this season.
"It took awhile just for me to get back in the swing of things, get back in good shape and adjust to the new system," said Woods, who was signed by Miami on Jan. 26. "I feel good. I've been waiting on this since October. To finally get a chance to put the uniform on, that's an accomplishment in itself."
To make room for Woods, Miami placed F Rasual Butler on the injured list with tendinitis in his right knee. Butler, who is averaging 6.1 points and 2.2 rebounds in 61 games this season -- including 15 starts -- had not played in five of Miami's six previous games before yesterday.
MAGIC'S NELSON IS HURT: Magic G Jameer Nelson will miss 14 to 17 days after an MRI exam showed a torn muscle in his rib cage.
Nelson played just three minutes of Monday night's 109-102 win over Atlanta before leaving.
In his rookie season, Nelson is averaging 8.1 points and 2.9 assists in 69 games for Orlando, including 14 starts at point guard.
JAZZ SIGNS CENTER: C Ben Handlogten signed with the Jazz for the rest of the season. The 6-foot-10 Handlogten has played in nine games, starting three, averaging 3.8 points and 2.8 rebounds.
