STUTTGART, Germany - Luxury automaker Porsche said Friday it is recalling about 22,000 Cayenne sport utility vehicles worldwide to fix a wiring defect.
The recall affects Cayennes produced between Oct. 1, 2002 and July 19, 2003, spokesman Stefan Marschall said. The company plans to adjust wires near the parking brake that could chafe and potentially cause a fire.
Porsche didn't report any injuries from the defect.
Brisk sales of the Cayenne have boosted Porsche's results over recent quarters.
On Thursday, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the recall affected 10,637 Cayennes in the United States.
Porsche said Friday it also is recalling 1,805 of its 911 sports cars from the 2003 model year in North America because the seat backs don't meet strength standards.
