Chicago: Purchased the contract of OF Ben Grieve from Class AAA Iowa and sent down IF Mike Fontenot.

Grieve, the 1998 rookie of the year with Oakland, hit .250 with one home run and six RBI in 15 games for the Cubs last season after he was traded from Milwaukee.
