Barry Discharged From Hospital
D.C. Council member Marion Barry (D-Ward 8) was discharged yesterday from Howard University Hospital after several days of treatment for flulike symptoms, his spokeswoman said.
The former mayor was hospitalized with a bacterial infection, according to spokeswoman Linda Greene. He went to Greater Southeast Community Hospital last week, then moved to Howard.
Before leaving the hospital yesterday, Barry telephoned a gathering of religious and community leaders planning the 10th anniversary commemoration of the Million Man March.
"I had a short bout with the flu," Barry said. His son, Christopher, and estranged wife, Cora Masters Barry, were at the gathering at Union Temple Baptist Church and said he was recovering.

Teen Arrested in Bat Attack
A Herndon youth was arrested yesterday in a baseball bat attack at a shopping center that left another youth critically injured, town police said.
A 16-year-old, who was not identified because of his age, was charged with malicious wounding in the Friday attack in the 1000 block of Elden Street in Herndon, police said. Senior Sgt. Jerry Keys, the Herndon police spokesman, said the 17-year-old who was hit was hospitalized in critical condition.
According to Keys, several youths might have been involved in the attack on the 17-year-old and another youth who was with him. The second youth also was injured, Keys said.
The motive remained under investigation, he said.
