In response to the Aug. 6 front-page article "Besieged D.C. Both Resentful and Resigned":

The really sad reality underlying this story is that, within a few weeks, people will get used to the Gestapo searches, and it will become normal. I think the federal government should put a checkpoint in front of the Jefferson Memorial and let the citizens read the Declaration of Independence while they are being searched by gun-toting police with guard dogs.
