Book: Contending with Kennan: Toward a Philosophy of American Power (Praeger)
George F. Kennan was author of "containment," the dominant strategy of America's first 50 years as a superpower. Kennan played a central role in drafting the Marshall Plan and took on some of the most dangerous diplomatic assignments of the Cold War. Late in life he became a nuclear abolitionist and fierce critic of what he saw as Washington's global hubris. This book traces his intellectual journey.
