Dress for an Anniversary
Friday, February 11, 2005; Page A24
Regarding the brouhaha over Vice President Cheney's attire at Auschwitz-Birkenau [letters, Feb. 7], if the vice president thought a personalized parka and ski cap were suitable for such a solemn occasion, why wasn't he similarly dressed at the inauguration? It was cold then too, but he managed to spend several hours dressed in a dignified fashion. In Poland he reinforced the stereotype of Americans as thoughtless boors. This historic 60th anniversary deserved better from the U.S. representative.
