President Clinton was misquoted in a July 27 article about the opening night of the Democratic National Convention. The quote should have read "Strength and wisdom are not opposing values," not "Strength and wisdom are not conflicting values."
Tom Shales's column in the July 27 Style section incorrectly said that Haleema Salie, a speaker at the Democratic National Convention, lost family members on the plane that crashed into the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001. Salie's family members were on American Airlines Flight 11, which crashed into the World Trade Center.
A July 23 article on the House's adoption of the Marriage Protection Act, a bill that would strip federal courts of jurisdiction over same-sex marriage cases, incorrectly reported that both Republicans in Maryland's House delegation voted for the legislation. Rep. Wayne T. Gilchrest voted against the bill.
A July 23 article misstated the amount of land in the Gaza Strip occupied by Jewish settlers. Although there is disagreement on the exact amount, estimates range from about 12 percent to about 15 percent. When Israeli military installations, roads and security zones are included, estimates range from about 15 percent to about 38 percent.
