• It won't be all country music for inaugural entertainment: The Creative Coalition's Jan. 20 ball will be headlined by soulful pop singer Macy Gray, we learned yesterday. Other talent (nonperforming) expected to attend includes actors Daniel Stern, Dixie Carter, Susan Lucci and Daphne Zuniga, and the coalition's co-presidents, Joe Pantoliano and Tony Goldwyn. They'll join D.C. boldfacers including Tucker Carlson and John McLaughlin at a pre-ball VIP dinner at the St. Regis.

• Being a pal of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger certainly has its advantages. Tom Arnold, who this week had the guv on his Fox Sports program, "The Best Damn Sports Show Period," has lined him up for a movie role. Arnold has written a comedy, "The Kid and I," about a kid with cerebral palsy who wants to star in an action movie. Ahnuld has agreed to make an appearance in his buddy's flick, which also stars Shannon Elizabeth and Joe Mantegna and will include an appearance by another Schwarzenegger pal, Jamie Lee Curtis.
• If you happened to drive by the Uptown Theater on Connecticut Avenue last night and saw a big to-do, that's because Mary Margaret Valenti ( Jack's better half) was throwing a fundraising screening of the highly anticipated "The Phantom of the Opera" with proceeds going to the Woodley House, a care provider for people with mental illness. We hear the audience included Colin and Alma Powell, George Tenet and wife, Stephanie Glakas-Tenet, and the movie's director, Joel Schumacher.
• Spotted: Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld lunching at the Cheesecake Factory in Chevy Chase Pavilion on Sunday afternoon. The place was packed, so Rummy and his unidentified lady lunching partner pulled up stools and chowed down at the bar. Now that's what we call not pulling rank.
• Russian tennis star Anna Kournikova, 23, and singer boyfriend Enrique Iglesias, 29, secretly got married a few weeks ago, Us Weekly reported yesterday.

The approach of the holidays caused the following to happen:
• Rather than repeat last year's 52-foot-high replica of Jesus, a homeowner in Lodi, Calif., used rebar and 4,000 feet of twinkling lights to create a Christmas display to support the war in Iraq: a 48-foot-high American soldier clutching a rifle.
• A British insurer said flaming plum pudding is partly to blame for a fourfold increase in fire claims each Dec. 25.
• Tokyo residents lined up to practice saying "Ho ho ho" in a training course offered by the country's only "certified" Santa Claus, Paradise Yamamoto, who also happens to be one of Japan's top mambo musicians.
