Virginia forward Jason Clark will miss the remainder of the season for academic reasons, the school announced last night.
Clark, a senior, had started 12 of the 13 games he played in this season, averaging 6.7 points and 5.2 rebounds. The loss is significant for the Cavaliers, who must replace a 6-foot-8 player who had started 47 games in his career.
Clark blocked at least one shot in each of the last 19 games of his junior season -- after sitting out the first portion of the Cavaliers' schedule because of an academic suspension. Clark led Virginia in blocked shots (39) in 2001-02, which ranked third in the ACC, despite starting just three games.
Clark's career high of eight blocked shots in a victory over VMI on Jan. 24, 2002, tied the most in a game by a Virginia player other than Ralph Sampson.
