• The JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort & Spa, the first new resort to open in Tucson in 18 years, is offering a grand opening rate of $189 to $249 per night. Discounted rates apply from opening day, set for Jan. 1, through Jan. 31. Regular rates will then start at $379 a night. Taxes are 11.5 percent extra, plus $1 a night. • Take the family to Vietnam and save 15 percent with a deal from Generations Touring Co. The 11-day tour starts at $1,099 per person triple occupancy before the discount; a family of four would save $659. With a deal from Malaysia Airlines, fly from Newark to any of several Australian cities -- including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or Perth -- starting at $899 round trip. Travel Jan. 16-March 31; buy by Jan. 16. Flights connect through Kuala Lumpur. Taxes are about $190. Hyatt is again offering its " Faster Free Nights" promotion. Earn one free night at any of its 210 properties for every two paid nights. • Take a cruise with Washington Senator legend Frank Howard and other baseball greats on MSC Cruises' Opera departing Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Jan. 22. • Peter Deilmann Cruises is offering 10 percent savings on the Deutschland sailing from Monte Carlo on April 23. After the discount, the eight-night cruise starts at $1,991 per person double, plus $85 in port charges. Southwest and AirTran are offering $49 one-way fares from BWI to several cities in Florida, including Fort Lauderdale, Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa and West Palm Beach. Round-trip fare to Fort Lauderdale, for example, is $117 with taxes; fare on other airlines is about $140. Purchase by Jan. 16 for travel Jan. 3-Feb. 17 on Southwest and for travel Jan. 4-Feb. 17 on AirTran. Purchase Southwest tickets at www.southwest.com at least seven days in advance. American is starting new service to the colonial city of San Luis Potosi in Mexico beginning Jan. 5; inaugural fares from Washington start at $338 round trip, plus taxes of about $97. • Spend five nights in Shanghai for $719 per person double, including round-trip air from D.C. The Pacific Delight World Tours' package also includes a room at the Grand You You Hotel, breakfasts and transfers. Complete travel by March 31; blackout dates are Feb. 3-13. • Travelers who don't want to share a room can go on select Grand Circle Travel trips next fall and pay no single supplement. For example, a 13-night "Essential Costa del Sol" vacation on Nov. 30, with air from D.C., lodging, 24 meals, two sightseeing tours and lectures, starts at $1,245 per person single or double, plus $108 taxes; single supplement was $195.
