Saving the Orphans

Wednesday, January 12, 2005; Page A20

I was touched by the Dec. 30 front-page story from Navalady, Sri Lanka ["Outracing the Sea, Orphans in His Care"], about how Dayalan Sanders, formerly of Gaithersburg, saved the lives of all the children in his orphanage.

What struck me was the aptness of the name given to the man who founded the orphanage. In Tamil, "Dayalan" means the compassionate one.
