"The consequences of a personal relationship with God may confer [health] benefits in circumstances beyond the reach of relationships with individuals."

-- University of Chicago researcher John Cacioppo, speaking about a study he is launching to explore the relationship between religious attitudes and health. Preliminary research, he said, suggests less depression in African Americans who report a strong relationship with God; among white subjects, the link was less clear.
