Blood Clot Ails Derby Contender

Tuesday, April 5, 2005; Page D02

Rockport Harbor has a blood clot in his neck and may miss the Arkansas Derby, jeopardizing his chances to run the Kentucky Derby on May 7.

John Servis, who also trained last year's Kentucky Derby winner Smarty Jones, said yesterday the baseball-size clot is dissolving and there's a chance the colt could make the Arkansas Derby on April 16.

Servis, though, nominated Rockport Harbor for the Lexington Stakes at Keeneland on April 23, calling it his "Plan B." Servis said it's possible Rockport Harbor could return to the Oaklawn Park track tomorrow.

Rockport Harbor was unbeaten in four starts last year.
