The wedding favor has sometimes been known as a dust collector. That's why the best parting gift is edible, a sweet afterthought that is consumed and gone.

"Let's remember that a slice of wedding cake used to be sent home in a box with each guest as a wedding favor," says Rosanna McCollough, WeddingChannel.com editor in chief. "The trend to give guests something edible emerged from this tradition."

So now couples are dishing out gold-encrusted Jordan almonds, expensive cookies that mirror the bride's dress, sweet and salty popcorn, heart-shaped truffles, red-hots and milk chocolate lentils in funky hues like robin's-egg blue.

Says McCollough, "It's a tantalizing way to remember the wedding."
