North Carolina's win over Illinois in the NCAA championship game was the highest-rated men's title game since 1999.
Coverage of the Tar Heels' 75-70 win on CBS got an overnight rating of 16.0 with a 23 share. That's up 43 percent from last year's 11.2 with a 17 share the network got for Connecticut's win over Georgia Tech. It's the best rating for an NCAA title game since Connecticut's win over Duke in 1999 got a 16.9 with a 25 share.
For the tournament, the network averaged an overnight rating of 7.3, up 14 percent from last year's 6.4 and the highest since a 7.5 rating in 1994.
The rating is the percentage of all homes with TVs, whether or not they are in use. The share is the percentage of U.S. homes with sets in use in the 55 largest TV markets.
