Fox Offering Can't Quite Stack Up

Sunday, April 10, 2005; Page Y06

'Stacked'

Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m. on Fox

The tagline you'll never see: "Pamela Anderson shares her greatest assets -- and they're not acting skills or charm."

The basics: Skyler Dayton (Anderson) is a partier who's got a thing for rock stars, pro athletes and bad boys in general. But after catching her latest beau in bed with two other women, Skyler decides it's time for a change. She makes a rare trip to a bookstore called Stacks (hence the title of the show, despite what viewers might otherwise assume) in search of a self-helper on relationships. One thing leads to another, and by show's end, she's got a job selling books. It's a win-win for Skyler, who needs a job and wants to break the cycle of bad choices in men. A bookstore is "a perfect place to stop meeting hot guys," she quips.

The lowdown: Anderson's name and Internet fame likely will help bring some eyeballs to the show, especially among the young male demographic. This ditzy-blonde sitcom is filling the "Simple Life 3" slot, which features even ditzier women at work.

Reality check: No, Anderson can't act. She really can't. But she's not totally unlikable in a role in which she's basically playing herself. If the dialogue remains the same, we're looking at a sub-par sitcom with only a few laughs. The biggest shocker is that the accomplished Christopher Lloyd has a small role and hits a few lines out of the park. It makes you wish Fox could find a vehicle for him rather than for Anderson.
