Broadwing, a Columbia provider of optical network communications services, lost $43.4 million (68 cents a share) on $219.9 million in revenue during its fourth quarter ended Dec. 31, compared with a loss of $55.4 million ($1.20) on $142.5 million in revenue during the comparable period a year earlier. For the year, the company lost $152.2 million ($2.86) on $672.3 million in revenue, compared with a loss of $260.5 million ($6) on $314.3 million in revenue in 2003. The per-share results reflect a reverse stock split in October.
Avatech Solutions, an Owings Mills engineering technology company, had a profit of $9.5 million (0 cents) on $5.2 million in revenue during its second fiscal 2005 quarter ended Dec. 31, compared with a profit of $4.7 million (0 cents) on $5.2 million in revenue in the comparable period a year earlier.
Online Resources, a Chantilly provider of Internet financial services, had a profit of $1.2 million (6 cents) on $11.4 million in revenue in its fourth quarter ended Dec. 31, compared with a profit of $425,000 (2 cents) on $9.7 million in revenue in the year-earlier quarter. Optelecom, a Germantown company that makes communications systems, agreed to acquire NKF Electronics of the Netherlands for $26 million, financed with senior and subordinated debt. NKF, a subsidiary of cable manufacturer Draka Holding, develops, manufactures and sells fiber-optic and IP/Ethernet-network technologies. The combined company will focus on developing products for video surveillance, traffic monitoring and business video systems.
Lockheed Martin of Bethesda won a $108 million contract from the U.S. Army Aviation & Missile Command in Huntsville, Ala., to produce 1,014 Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System rockets. Delivery is expected in 2006 and 2007.
