your company do?

We are a professional-services software company and consulting firm. We primarily focus on the grant market and the business-intelligence space. For grant management, we focus on post-award administration. The National Institutes of Health is our largest customer, and we help them respond to requests from Congress about how much grant funding they're spending. We're now positioning ourselves throughout all government agencies that do grant management.

In the business-intelligence space, we provide Web-based ad hoc query and reporting tools. We also have a product that is an advance text-searching engine. It's a way for anyone that's using a database system to get results and information back from their databases in an ad hoc manner, so you can run queries and reports against any database.

What do you think your employees would say were the best reasons for working at your company?

I think overall it's the culture and people and the vision of the organization, what we're trying to achieve. We're about 20 people, and we work out of an old, historic house in Reston. It was one of the first farmhouses built in Reston. That's our office space. It was a dream we always had to not be in a traditional office. Everyone's busy and working on multiple projects, but it's a good group of people, everyone works hard and has fun.

Who owns your company?

We're privately held.

What sense of stability can your company offer job candidates?

We've been in business going on eight years now, and we have a strong foothold in our niche area, especially the grants-reporting area. We don't just want to be a services company; we want to have a product line. That's the direction we're going in, how we've been changing the company over the past year or two.

What are the demographics of your company?

Companywide, we are 31 percent female and 38 percent minority. The executive management team is 25 percent female and 25 percent minority.

What positions do you have available and what level of expertise do you want?

Our hiring is mainly focused on the tech side right now, but we're always looking for business analysts as well. Business analysts should have a consulting background and three to five years of experience. We're currently looking for two technical project managers, one senior .NET engineer, one senior Java engineer and one junior Java engineer. The majority of our software is Java-based, so applicants for the senior positions need to have five to seven years of experience with a strong foundation in Java technology. Applicants for the junior Java engineer position should have one to three years of experience. We'll also be hiring for additional openings during the first quarter of 2005.
