AH, THERE'S THE DRY RUB. Only one of the more than 20 teams who will fire up their grills on Kent Island, Md., will become grand champion of the Great American BBQ Roadshow and Music Festival. But others can vie for ribbons in the Best Shoulder/Butt, Brisket, Chicken and Sauce categories. The extreme roasting, by teams with names like Frying Pan and Smoked Encounters of the Third Swine, goes on June 19-20, and the overall winner qualifies for the Super Bowl of the sport, the American Royal in Kansas City, Mo. Samples and sauce will be on sale; Howlin' Wolf, Jr., Roy Carrier and the Night Rockers and others provide the live soundtrack.
$10. 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. About 50 minutes from the Beltway at the Chesapeake Bay Business Park, Route 8, Kent Island, Md. 877-742-7872.
