We Welcome You To The Guide

Thursday, April 21, 2005; Page LZ02

Loudoun and Fauquier counties are growing so quickly -- Loudoun remains one of the fastest-growing counties in the nation -- that it can be challenging for both newcomers and longtime residents to keep track of all the changes. To help you navigate, we are back with another year of The Guide.

This special edition of Loudoun Extra, produced by a team of Washington Post editors, reporters, editorial aides, photographers and artists, provides a general guide to the two counties, with an emphasis this year on sports and recreation.

We have included some special features. Post gardening expert Adrian Higgins tells what trees grow well in this area. Columnist John Kelly provides the lowdown on how certain bridges got their names, and food writer Nancy Lewis surveys new restaurants in the area. If you're looking for cool activities for children, check Fun Things to Do With Kids or the KidsPost page.

As large as The Post may seem to readers, there is never enough space to print everything. For example, religion is a big part of our community, but we did not have enough space to list every faith institution.

Many features that regularly appear in the Thursday Extra can be found in Sunday's Loudoun Extra or will resume in their regular spots in the April 28 issue.

We hope you enjoy The Guide and find it helpful. We welcome your suggestions and will be updating The Guide on washingtonpost.com/theguide as new information about the community becomes available.
