I Do, You Do, They Do Baja
WHERE TO STAY: My casita, Casa Sirena, a two-story house with a kitchen and large bath on Pescadero Beach Road, on the north end of Todos Santos, cost $650 for three people for a week. Details: www.todossantos.cc/sirena.html.
The wedding was held at the Alegria Inn (north of town on La Cachora Road, 011-52-612-145-0700, www.alegriainn.net), where rooms are $90 to $135 per night double in season (breakfast included). The inn features stunning rooms with carved-wood beds and colorful tiles in the bathroom.
Other lodging options include Posada La Poza, an elegant seaside hotel built by a Swiss banker, and Las Puertas, which has three separate casitas. In-town properties include Todos Santos Inn, which has a great wine bar called La Copa, and the beautiful Hotel California, painted with rich colors. For more details, go to www.todossantos.cc.
WHERE TO EAT:Restaurant Cafe Santa Fe (Calle Centenario, off Marquez de Leon), which serves Italian fare and fresh fish, is one of the best restaurants in Baja. Dinner for two can be as much as $50 per person for a full tasting menu. Fonda El Zaguan (Juarez, between Topete and Hidalgo) is a little hole in the wall with fish and vegetarian tacos, good ceviche and soup. Dinner for two, including beer, is less than $10 per person.
Los Adobes de Todos Santos (Hidalgo, between Juarez and Colegio Militar) is a more elegant eatery, with chicken mole and fresh fajitas; dinner for two, without wine, is $50. Miguel's Restaurant (corner of DeGollado and Rangel) has the best chile rellenos in town, and they're a bargain at $10 a person with beer. Caffe Todos Santos (Centenario, between Obregon and Topete) has tasty muffins, healthy salads and deli sandwiches. It's a little pricier, at more than $15 a person for lunch.
WHAT TO DO: I took surfing lessons ($25) and went ocean kayaking ($40) with La Sirena Kayak (011-52-612-108-0578, www.mexonline.com/lasirenakayak.htm). Cielo Day Spa and Gym (Juarez, between Zaragoza and Morelos, 011-52-612-145-0756, www.spa-cielo.com) offers various treatments, such as a half-hour salt glow ($45).
INFORMATION: There is no local tourist office, but El Calendario is a monthly publication that lists all the events in town. For listings, check www.todossantos-baja.com/elcalendariotodossantos.htm. Also helpful is www.todossantos.cc, a privately maintained site that lists lodging, activities and restaurants. For general info about visiting Mexico: Mexico Tourism Board, 800-44-MEXICO,www.visitmexico.com.
