OUTSTANDING IN THEIR FIELDS. Working farms, vineyards and more than a dozen agro-cool venues join in the Fall Farm Fun Weekend throughout Winchester-Frederick County, Va., Sept. 18-19. Expect such garden-variety harvest diversions as the pumpkin patch and corn maze at High Hill Farm and the fruit butters and preserves at Shawnee Springs Market, but see animals more exotic than cows and pigs at Wilson's Wild Animal Park. Sept. 18 is Grinding Day at the restored Burwell-Morgan Mill, and on Sept. 19 naturalists show how agricultural fields are transformed into native plant meadows at Blandy Experimental Farm, the state's arboretum.

Times and prices vary. Venues throughout Winchester-Frederick County, Va. 800-662-1360, www.visitwinchesterva.com.
