Georgetown's Causey Will Transfer

Guard Matt Causey, one of Georgetown's key reserves as a freshman last season, will transfer, the university announced yesterday.
The 5-foot-11 guard from Gainesville, Ga., averaged 2.2 points and 1.7 assists in 13.5 minutes. His best performance was in the final game of the season; he scored 12 points and had five assists in 29 minutes in a 68-57 loss to Boston College in the Big East tournament."It's unfortunate that I never got the opportunity to know and work with Matt, but we wish him the best of luck in his new situation," Coach John Thompson III said in a statement.
Causey is the third guard to transfer from Georgetown since the end of the 2002-03 season. Tony Bethel and Drew Hall left for North Carolina State and the College of Charleston, respectively, last spring following their sophomore seasons.
Causey's departure leaves Georgetown with only 10 scholarship players -- including just four players who averaged more than 10 minutes last season -- and a thin back court.
Attempts to reach Causey were unsuccessful. Reached by phone, Causey's mother, Cindy, declined to comment.
