Restoration Hardware officially opened its first East Coast outlet store -- and its second nationwide -- last week at Leesburg Corner Premium Outlets.
Merchandise -- more furniture than accessories -- includes discontinued, overstock or damaged pieces from stores. Most of what was on the sales floor on opening day was furniture in near-perfect condition: sofas, chairs, tables, dining room buffets and mirrors.

Prices are definitely lower than retail, but still high by outlet standards. However, if there's a particular item you've been yearning for and resisting, checking the outlet may be worth the drive. Some of the markdowns we saw last week were a Mission-style end table, retail $695, outlet $455; a Mission-style bookcase with glass door, retail $1,495, outlet $1,060. We have had our eye on the white Cartwright tall cabinet and there were two for sale last week. Originally $849, one was priced at $525 and the other, with two barely visible nicks, was $485.
The store's famous paint is also available at outlet prices: $19.99 instead of $25 for a gallon of silver sage, butter, latte, silver birch or the Right White.
While you're in Leesburg, pop into the outlet stores for Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn and Storehouse. The merchandise is not always of as high a quality as you'll find at neighboring Restoration Hardware, but the prices are more bargain basement.
