8 Senate Races Key to Democrats' Hopes

In the North Carolina race to succeed Sen. John Edwards, the Democratic vice presidential nominee, both Erskine Bowles (D) and Rep. Richard Burr (R) are angling for advantage from Congress's passage of a buyout for tobacco growers. And Burr is running ads targeting Bowles's former job as chief of staff for President Bill Clinton.
