In Alaska, former governor Tony Knowles (D) has parted company with Democratic presidential candidate John F. Kerry to endorse oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in hopes of unseating Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R). She is fighting nepotism complaints arising from her appointment to the seat by her father, Gov. Frank H. Murkowski (R).
