1 Dead, 1 Hurt in Germantown Shooting
A 30-year-old man died at the scene of a Germantown shooting, and a 42-year-old man was being treated for serious injuries at a hospital, Montgomery police said.
Residents of the 13100 block of Pickering Drive called officials about 2:15 a.m. yesterday to report hearing shots fired. Police said the deceased man, whose name was not released pending notification of family, was from out of state. Police were trying to determine the injured man's residency.
"At this point, we don't know the circumstances that led to the loss of life of one victim and the injury of another," police spokeswoman Lucille Baur said. "We are trying to determine what was going on in the area."

Motorcyclist Dies, Rider Hurt in Crash
A Temple Hills man died and his passenger suffered serious injuries after being ejected from the motorcycle they were riding Saturday night, Prince George's County police said.
Kevin Watt, 46, of the 7300 block of Easy Street, was pronounced dead at the scene. The female passenger, whose name was not released, was in a hospital, where she was expected to recover, police said.
Watt was approaching a curve in the 7100 block of Kingston Drive in Camp Springs about 8 p.m. when his footrest scraped the asphalt and the riders were ejected, police said. Speed was not a factor, police said.
Man Tries to Take Silver Spring Girl
A man attempted to lure a 12-year-old Silver Spring girl while she was playing yesterday, but the girl escaped, Montgomery County police said.
They said the man approached the girl about 6 p.m. and reached for her hand as she was playing in the 9200 block of Longbranch Parkway.
The girl eluded the man, and he walked off, police said.

Fire Destroys Fairfax Home
An unattended propane smoker is being blamed for a fire that destroyed one Fairfax County home yesterday and damaged two others.
The fire was reported about 3:15 p.m. at a home in the 13200 block of Shady Ridge Lane in Chantilly. "There was heavy fire to the roof in the rear of the structure," said Lt. Raul Castillo of the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department.
