. . . visited one of the nation's first modern art museums. The Phillips Collection, founded in 1921, is home to many of the masters. This week, the museum unveiled a collection of works by artist Milton Avery, collected by the museum's namesake, Duncan Phillips, and violinist Louis Kaufman.

The Phillips Collection is at 1600 21st St. NW near Dupont Circle. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, Thursdays until 8:30 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 7 p.m. The museum is closed Mondays and holidays.
