Looking to take your yoga practice beyond the plastic mat on your living room floor? Head to the Kennedy Center, where starting April 8, Georgetown Yoga will offer a weekend workshop led by master practitioner Beryl Bender Birch (above). The best-selling author of "Power Yoga" stands out from the crowded field of trendy exercise gurus: She was teaching sun salutations back when Hall & Oates topped the charts, and she's credited with popularizing -- yep, you guessed it -- power yoga, which marries a fast-paced workout with traditional stretches. Birch will teach four Ashtanga classes, each geared at improving different aspects of alignment and breathing -- all you need is your own mat and a grasp of yoga basics. Emily Heil

The full weekend costs $225 and single sessions are $60. Visit www.georgetownyoga.comto register.
